Division of Orthopedics

The Division of Orthopedics at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center is comprised of three departments: Orthopedics A, Orthopedics В and Pediatrlc Orthopedics. The professional medical activities that are performed within the framework of the various units include: joints, arthroscopy and sports injuries, elbows, spine, foot ankle and hand.

There are extensive academic activities that take place within the Division -instruction of Interns In arthroscopy and the presentation of lectures within the university framework, training medical students, lectures for orthopedic doctors and family doctors in the community, presentation of projects at conferences in both Israel and abroad, rotational hosting and research activities.

Department of Orthopedics A

Department Head: Dr. Gabriel Agar
Board certified in orthopedic surgery with sub-specialization in arthroscopy and sports injuries.
Head of the Arthroscopy and Sports Injury Unit. Previously served as President of the Israel Society of Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery. Secretary of the Israel Orthopedics Association and a member of ISAKOS, AANA, IOA, ESSKA.

The Unit for Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Injuries operates as part of the Department A variety of operations and reconstructions are performed in the Unit Reconstructions: wrist, thigh, knee and ankle joints. Arthroscopy: performed on shoulders, wrist joints, hip joints, knees and ankle joints. Replacements - primary and repeat replacement of the shoulder joint.


Joint Replacement Unit

The Unit for Joint Replacements Is an Integral part of the Orthopedic Department The Unit's staff performs surgery on patients who have been stricken by a wide variety of congenital, degenerative joint diseases of the hip and knees. In addition, surgery is performed on incomplete healing of long bone fractures. Primary and repeat replacement of knees, primary and repeat replacement of wrists, partial joint replacements.

Innovations in the clinical field - switching to minimalist surgical approaches for knee  replacement surgery and hip replacement surgery, use of state-of-the-art implants for increased longevity of the implant.

The Spine Surgery Unit is part of the Orthopedic Department The surgeons perform an extensive variety of surgical procedures on patients stricken with degenerative diseases, congenital and growth disorders of the spine and victims of trauma. The Department provides consulting services for all the hospital departments.

Foot & Ankle and Diabetic Foot Unit

Board certified in orthopedic surgery. President of the Israel Orthopedic Association for Foot and Ankle, member of IOFA5, АО FAS.

The Foot and Ankle 5urgical Unit at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center operates as part of the Division of Orthopedics. The Unit treats a wide variety of patients who are stricken with degenerative, congenital and growth diseases and patients who have undergone trauma and cases of diabetic foot The treatment of foot infections and diabetic foot Is performed In cooperation with the Hyperbaric Chamber at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center. The Unit provides treatment for inpatients as well as at the Outpatient Clinics.

Surgery and treatments performed in the Unit - repair of congenital and developmental deformities of the foot, repair of fractures, Innovative treatments for replacement of ankle joints, cartilage implant and reconstruction of injured joints of the ankle and foot.


Hand Surgery Unit

Unit Head: Dr. Maurice Aghasi
Board certified in orthopedic surgery, specialist in hand surgery. Member of the Mobility Appeals Committee under the auspices of the Ministry of Health.

The Unit for Hand Surgery operates as part of the Division of Orthopedics. The staff in the Unit performs surgery in the field of degenerative, congenital and growth diseases of the hand and on victims of trauma. The Unit provides consultation services to the entire hospital as well as to outpatients.

The surgical procedures performed in the Unit - narrowing of the carpal tunnel tendon transposition, trigger-finger surgery and fractures.
